An Act to extend the time for taking the Oath prescribed by a certain Act passed in the ninth year of His late Majesty's Reign entitled, “An Act to secure to and confer upon certain Inhabitants of this Province the Civil and Political Rights of Natural Born British Subjects.” Passed 16th March, 1831. 1 William IV – Chapter 8 1831 This Act extends the period during which inhabitants of Upper Canada who were not British-born may swear an oath to receive rights inherent to British-born subjects, from three years to four. An Act to Erect the County of Prince Edward into a Separate District. An Act to indemnify the Magistrates of the Newcastle District, and to authorise them to raise a Loan, on the Credit of the Funds of the said District, to complete a Building Erected at the Village of Amherst as the Gaol and Court House of the said District. Passed 16th March, 1831. 1 William IV – Chapter 6 1831 This Act recognizes the legal validity of the funds thus far put toward the construction of a "Gaol and Court House" in Amherst, and authorizes the local Justices of the Peace to raise and apply the funds necessary to complete construction of the building. An Act to amend and extend the provisions of an Act passed in the eighth year of His late Majesty's Reign, entitled “An Act to provide for the Erection of a Gaol and Court House in the Eastern District.” Passed 16th March, 1831. 1 William IV – Chapter 5 1831 This Act appoints two additional Commissioners to oversee the construction of a "Gaol and Court House" in eastern Upper Canada, and stipulates that at least three of the now five Commissioners must agree on all decisions pertaining thereto. An Act to enable Married Women more conveniently to Alien and Convey their Real Estate, and to Repeal an Act passed in the forty-third year of the Reign of King George the Third, entitled “An Act to enable Married Women, having Real Estate, more conveniently to Alienate and Convey the same.” Passed 16th March, 1831. 1 William IV – Chapter 3 1831 This Act makes it easier for a married female property owner to transfer her land title to another owner; sets out the specifics of such transfer; and repeals the previous Act dealing with transfer of female-owned property. An Act to prevent a failure of Justice by reason of Immaterial variances in certain Law Proceedings, and to require all Courts to take Judicial notice of Private Acts of Parliament. An Act to make valid certain Marriages heretofore contracted, and to provide for the future Solemnization of Matrimony in this Province. (The Royal Assent to this Bill was signified, by Message of His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor, to the Legislative Council and Assembly of this Province on the Second day of March, 1831.) 1 William IV – Chapter 1 1831 This Act states that any marriage performed up to this point in time by an official legally qualified to solemnize marriage, shall henceforth be regarded and respected as valid, and that any children born into such a marriage be considered legitimate. An Act for the Relief of John Eastwood and Colin Skinner. Passed 6th March, 1830. 11 George IV – Chapter 35 1830 This Act provides for 125 pounds to reimburse John Eastwood and Colin Skinner, who make paper, for the duties they have paid on machinery related to their trade which they have "imported . . . from the United States."
