This act allows justices of the peace to assemble and hold a court of requests within the limits of their respective divisions for the purpose of more easily settling small debts.
This act makes it law for the magistrates of each district to appoint firefighters in any town or place in the province where there are forty or more buildings within a half square mile.
This act abolishes the proceedings of courts of common pleas in actions under ten pounds sterling and requires that all actions exceeding forty shillings be commenced in the same courts as those above ten pounds.
This act repeals the Quebec Act's provision allowing for resort to French civil law in matters relative to property and civil rights and establishes English common law as the rule for such decisions in Upper Canada.
