March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 28 1823 An Act to continue and amend an Act originally passed in 1803 “An Act for the better regulation of the Militia of this Province, and for repealing certain Acts or Ordinances therein mentioned,” that was amended in 1817 and 1819. This Act amends a clause relating to sums to be appropriated for the payment of certain Militia Offers and further enacts that a sum shall be put towards defraying expenses incurred by prosecuting delinquents or offenders of Militia laws. An Act further to continue for a limited time two certain Acts therein-mentioned, relating to Houses of Correction in the several Districts of this Province. (22d. March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 27 1823 An Act to further continue a former Act from 1817, amended in 1818, and continued in 1819 and 1821 that provided temporary Houses of Correction in several districts, including the District of Quebec, District of Montreal, and District of Trois-Rivières. The 1818 Act revised the budget for each district's temporary gaol and provides an annual allowance to the Committees appointed to superintend the Houses of Correction in the Districts of Quebec, Montreal, and Trois-Rivières for the purposes described. By the 1817 Act committees are required to give an annual report of their expenses and processes by which the committees are to be appointed and proceed were also outlined. An Act to appropriate a certain Sum of Money therein mentioned for the relief of Insane, Invalid and Infirm Persons, and towards the support of Foundlings. (22d. March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 25 1823 An Act to defray the expenses incurred by granting sums to religious communities for the support of Foundlings, and towards the relief of Sick and Infirm persons in the districts of Quebec, Montreal, and Trois-Rivières in 1822 and to advance further sums to each district for that purpose. An Act for the Establishment of Fairs, in this Province. (22d. March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 21 1823 An Act to establish fairs within the province to promote the interests of Agriculture. The Governor, Lieutenant-Governor, or person administering the Government is to determine the time and place of these fairs, which are to be held under the rules and regulations as made by Justices of the Peace for each District. March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 16 1823 An Act to provide for the Inspection of fish and fish oil to distinguish those fit for market from those that are unmerchantable. Under this Act, one or more Inspectors of Fish and Oil are to be appointed for the cities of Quebec and Montreal. An Act to repeal in part, and to amend and continue for a limited time, an Act passed in the fifty-ninth year of the Reign of His late Majesty George the Third, intituled, “An Act to repeal certain Acts therein-mentioned and to regulate the Lumber Trade.” (22d. March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 13 1823 An Act to repeal in part, amend, and continue an Act from 1819, "An Act to repeal certain Acts therein-mentioned and to regulate the Lumber Trade." Under this Act, all licences or commissions for the appointment of Master Cullers or Measurers of Boards, Planks, Staves, Timber, Masts and Spars issued, and the board of Examiners appointed by virtue of the 1819 Act are revoked. A new board of examiners is to be appointed. This Act outlines how they shall be appointed and their duties, including how licenses should be distributed from the passing of this Act. An Act to extend the powers of the Justices of the Peace, in certain cases specified in the fifteenth Session of an Act of the Legislature of this Province of the thirty-fifth year of the Reign of His Majesty George the Third, Chapter eight. (22d. March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 12 1823 An Act to extend the Justices of the Peace's powers and authorities from those outlined fiftieth section of an Act passed in 1795, "An Act for granting to His Majesty duties on Licences to Hawkers, Pedlars and Petty Chapmen and for regulating their trade; and for granting additional duties on Licences to persons for keeping Houses of Public Entertainment or for retailing Wine, Brandy, Rum, or other Spirituous Liquors in this Province; and for regulating the same, and for repealing the Act or Ordinance therein-mentioned." Under this Act, any two Justices of the Peace residing in the County where an offence occurs, whereas the former Act restricted this authority to Justices of the Peace at the weekly sittings. (22d March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 8 1823 An Act to implement further restrictions on the packaging or beef and port to be exported or shipped for exportation in addition to those specified in “An Act to regulate the curing, packing and inspection of Beef and Pork to be exported from the Province of Lower-Canada” passed in 1804. The 1817 Act granted the authority for Justices of the Peace to administer cases in country parishes pertaining to fences or ditches on property lines and damage to livestock. An Act to continue for a limited time, two certain Acts therein mentioned, relating to the Trial of Small Causes in the Country Parishes of this Province. (22d March, 1823.) 3 George IV Chapter 1 1823 An Act continue an Act passed in 1821 and the Act that continued and amended it in 1822, “An Act to amend an Act passed in the first year of His present Majesty’s Reign, intituled, ‘An Act for the Summary Trial of certain Small Causes in the Country Parishes of this Province.’” The original Act outlined how trials concerning the recovery of certain debts are to run in the province's counties and parishes, (excepting the Counties of Quebec and Montreal, and the Town and Parish of Trois-Rivières). This 1822 Act amended stipulations pertaining to summonses, Clerk's duties, and declares that no more than one Court shall be held in any Parish, Township, or Seigneurie.
