An Act to extend the time for taking the Oath prescribed by a certain Act passed in the ninth year of His late Majesty's Reign entitled, “An Act to secure to and confer upon certain Inhabitants of this Province the Civil and Political Rights of Natural Born British Subjects.” Passed 16th March, 1831. 1 William IV – Chapter 8 1831 This Act extends the period during which inhabitants of Upper Canada who were not British-born may swear an oath to receive rights inherent to British-born subjects, from three years to four. An Act to appropriate certain sums of Money therein mentioned, for the Improvement of the Internal Communications of the Province. (31st March, 1831.)
1 William IV Chapter 8 1831 This Act authorizes a sum not exceeding forty-seven thousand eight hundred and eighty-three pounds and sixpence, one farthing to be used to improve internal communications in the province as outlined. The Act also repeals a part of the 1829 Act, “An Act to appropriate certain sums of money stewards Macadamizing and improving certain roads near Quebec, and lay out certain new roads.” Further regulations for the commissioners who are to oversee these improvements are outlined. An Act to Erect the County of Prince Edward into a Separate District. Passed 16th March, 1831. 1 William IV – Chapter 7 1831 This Act establishes Prince Edward County (or, at this time, the "County of Prince Edward") as a separate "District" within the province of Upper Canada, making it no longer part of the Midland District. An Act to make further provision for the encouragement of Education in this Province, and to amend two certain Acts therein mentioned. (31st March, 1831.) 1 William IV Chapter 7 1831 This Act authorises several sums to be distributed to aid schools established within the province and for other purposes related to education in the province. The Act lists the people and bodies that are to receive funds, as well as the amounts to be paid out to them. An Act to indemnify the Magistrates of the Newcastle District, and to authorise them to raise a Loan, on the Credit of the Funds of the said District, to complete a Building Erected at the Village of Amherst as the Gaol and Court House of the said District. Passed 16th March, 1831. 1 William IV – Chapter 6 1831 This Act recognizes the legal validity of the funds thus far put toward the construction of a "Gaol and Court House" in Amherst, and authorizes the local Justices of the Peace to raise and apply the funds necessary to complete construction of the building. An Act to amend and extend the provisions of an Act passed in the eighth year of His late Majesty's Reign, entitled “An Act to provide for the Erection of a Gaol and Court House in the Eastern District.” Passed 16th March, 1831. 1 William IV – Chapter 5 1831 This Act appoints two additional Commissioners to oversee the construction of a "Gaol and Court House" in eastern Upper Canada, and stipulates that at least three of the now five Commissioners must agree on all decisions pertaining thereto. An Act to authorize the expenditure of certain sums of Money therein mentioned, for deepening the Little River Saint Pierre, at Montreal, and for making a Basin near the Lachine Canal. (31st March, 1831.) 1 William IV Chapter 5 1831 This Act provides further sums towards improving the Saint Pierre River in Montreal, as described, and prohibits rafts of fire wood from coming into the Lachine Canal in order to reduce obstructions in the canal.
