An Act in amendment of an act, made and passed in the Tenth year of His Majesty’s reign, entitled, “An Act for the settlement of the Poor in the several Townships in this Province;” and, also, in amendment of an Act, made in the Forty-first year of His said Majesty’s reign, entitled, “An Act for the better management and relief of the Poor at Halifax.” 43 George III – Chapter 3 1803 An amendment to two acts, the first passed in 1770 and the second in 1801. The first act outlined the cases in which townships must care for the poor and orphans and the manner in which this care is to be provided, while the second act appointed commissioners to oversee the relief of the poor within the town of Halifax. The current amendment clarifies who is responsible for disbursement of payment when someone who has applied for poor relief changes jurisdictions, and changes the rules around hiring out poor children. An Act for establishing Regulations respecting Aliens and certain subjects of his Majesty, who have resided in France, coming into this province, or residing therein. (11th, August, 1803.) 43 George III Chapter 2 Session 2 1803 An Act to monitor the entrance of "foreigners" into the province by ship. The Act requires that ship commanders report the number of "foreigners" on board their vessel to Customs officials when they arrive at ports within the province. The Act grants authority to Justices of the Peace to jail and remove "Aliens" who remain within the province longer than the period allowed by the court.
