DescriptionAn amendment to two acts, the first passed in 1770 and the second in 1801. The first act outlined the cases in which townships must care for the poor and orphans and the manner in which this care is to be provided, while the second act appointed commissioners to oversee the relief of the poor within the town of Halifax. The current amendment clarifies who is responsible for disbursement of payment when someone who has applied for poor relief changes jurisdictions, and changes the rules around hiring out poor children.
