This act is essentially an amendment to an act passed in 1839, entitled "An Act to amend several Acts now in force respecting Light Houses, and to make further provision for the said Light Houses, and to consolidate the Laws respecting the same," and is meant to extend the powers originally granted to the provincial lighthouse commissioners in the original act.
This act expands the terms of an 1849 act establishing Fredericton and Saint John Electric Telegraph Company to construct a telegraph line to Woodstock.
This act extends the time given for residents and business owners in St John's to rebuild wooden buildings in certain parts of the city with non-flammable materials after the fire which destroyed part of the city in 1847.
This act grants an annual sum of one thousand pounds to establish a provincial postal service. A post master, residing in St John's, will be appointed by the governor, and the responsibilities of the said Post Master are delineated in the act.
This act incorporates a company to build and maintain a telegraph from the Pedicodiac to Miramichi Rivers, and stipulates how it will be governed and financed.
