An Act to extend the powers of the British America Fire and Life Assurance Company, to Marine Assurances. 12th October, 1842. 6 Victoria – Chapter 25 1842 This act allows the British America Fire and Life Assurance Company to expand its services to Marine Assurance policies. The company will be permitted to offer protection against any losses or damages of cargo of vessels sailing the waters of the Saint Lawrence, Lake Superior, Lake Huron, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario, or any other navigable waters within the province. An Act to Incorporate a Company under the style and title of “The Quebec Gas-Light and Water Company.” 12th October, 1842. 6 Victoria – Chapter 23 1842 This act incorporates the Quebec Gas-Light and Water company under the named individuals. The manner in which the board of directors will be elected is specified, as well as their responsibilities, the value of shares, and the way in which they will be distributed. The company is instructed to undertake the work of laying down pipes for water and gas through the streets of Québec under the supervision of the city surveyor and only after having secured the proper permits and permission of the mayor, taking care not to do any unnecessary damage. An Act to grant further powers to the Montreal Fire Assurance Company, and to change the Name of the said Corporation. 12th October, 1842. 6 Victoria – Chapter 22 1842 This act changes the name of the Montreal Fire Assurance company to the The Montreal Fire Life and Inland Navigation Assurance Company. It also grants them the authority to hold more property of greater value as a corporate body, and to grant policies to vessels sailing the St Lawrence river.
