An Act to continue the several Acts of the General Assembly, for raising a Revenue to repair the Roads throughout the Province, by laying a Duty on Persons hereafter to be licensed to keep Public Houses and Shops, for the retail of Spirituous Liquors. 3 George IV – Chapter 23 1822 A continuation of several past acts which impose taxes on public houses in order to pay for road repair across the province. An Act to continue an Act, entitled, “An Act in addition to and in amendment of an Act, passed in the forty-first year of His Majesty’s Reign, entitled, ‘An Act for repairing, cleansing and paving, the Streets in the Town and Peninsula of Halifax, and for removing obstructions therein;’” and also, the act in amendment thereof, passed in the forty-second year of His present Majesty’s Reign. 3 George IV – Chapter 21 1822 A continuation of an act passed in 1809, which itself was an amendment to an act first passed in 1801. The original act divided the town of Halifax into wards for the purposes of repairing and maintaining roads. The amendment requires residents to keep the streets and gutters in front of their houses clean of any sort of filth or nuissance. The 1801 act, and subsequent amendments, have been continued, extended, and amended many times between 1801 and the present continuation. LLMC Digital Law Library
An Act to continue an Act, made and passed in the thirty-eighth year of His late Majesty’s reign, entitled, “An Act to amend and render more effectual an Act, passed in the eighteenth year of His present Majesty’s reign, entitled, ‘An Act to prevent forestalling, regrating and monopolizing, of Cord Wood in the Town of Halifax;’” and also, the Act now in force, in addition thereto. 3 George IV – Chapter 20 1822 A continuation of an act passed in 1798, which was itself an amendment and continuation of an act first passed in 1778, preventing the sale of cord wood for any price over fifteen shillings per cord. An Act to continue an Act, entitled, “An Act for the better preservation of the Property of the Inhabitants of the Town of Halifax, by providing for a sufficient Watch at Night.” 3 George IV – Chapter 18 1822 A continuation of an act passed in 1818, which provides for the establishment of a night watch to police the town of Halifax to protect its inhabitants’ property. An Act to continue an Act, in addition to an Act, passed in the thirty-third year of the Reign of His late Majesty George the Second, entitled, “An Act for regulating the Rates and Prices of Carriages.” 3 George IV – Chapter 17 1822 A continuation of an act passed in 1809, which was itself an amendment to an act first passed in 1759, restricting the price that can be demanded by owners of trucks, carts, and other carriages and provides for a table of allowable rates to be drawn up. An Act to extend an Act, passed in the forty-first year of His late Majesty’s Reign, entitled, “An Act for the repairing, keeping in repair, cleansing and paving, the Streets in the Town and Peninsula of Halifax," to the Town of Windsor. 3 George IV – Chapter 16 1822 This act amends an 1801 act which originally only applied to Halifax, extending the reach of the original act to also apply to the town of Windsor (excepting a few named clauses). The 1801 act has been amended to extend to other towns within Nova Scotia in a similar fashion prior to this amendment, namely in 1821 when the act was extended to Digby and Yarmouth. An Act to continue an Act, entitled, “An Act to provide for the greater security of this Province, by a better regulation of the Militia, and to repeal the Militia Laws now in force.” 3 George IV – Chapter 15 1822 A continuation of an act passed in 1821, which was a consolidation of militia laws in the province, and replaced all former militia acts passed by the Nova Scotia Legislation.
