An Act to Incorporate certain Persons therein mentioned, under the Style and Title of “the Cataraqui Bridge Company.” Passed 17th Feb’y. 1827. 8 George IV – Chapter 12 1827 This act incorporates the shareholders of the Cataraqui bridge company into a public body which can conduct business as an entity in the province. It also specifies regulations concerning the construction of bridges - their dimensions, security measures which need to be taken to assure the safety of both cattle and people, and areas which necessitate the building of a draw-bridge. An Act to amend the Law now in force in respect to granting Licences for keeping Ale Houses. Passed 17th, Feb’y. 1827. 8 George IV – Chapter 11 1827 The repeal and amendment of a clause in an act passed in 1823, having to do with how licenses for selling alcohol in towns and villages are granted. An Act respecting the appointment of Guardians. Passed 17th Feb’y. 1827. 8 George IV – Chapter 6 1827 This act makes it legal for the district probate courts of the province to appoint guardians for minors under the age of 21 whose parents are both deceased. It specifies that proof must be made that both mother and father are deceased, and states that the guardian appointed may deduct a "reasonable sum" of money from the estate of said minor to apply towards expenses. It gives the guardian the power to make all decisions regarding to education, apprenticeship, and management of estate until the age of 21 (or until marriage in the case of women), and although there are no limits applied to what the guardian can do with their ward or the ward's estate, there is a procedure laid out in the act which details how a ward can lodge a complaint with the government against their guardian. An Act to amend the Laws regulating the Practice of Physic, Surgery, and Midwifery in this Province. Passed 17th Feb’y. 1827. 8 George IV – Chapter 3 1827 An amendment to an Act passed in 1819, repealing the second and third clauses of said act, which state that no physician trained by a university in the empire or by His Majesty's naval or military service shall be restrained from practice in the province. Physicians trained elsewhere are to be subject to harsher licensing practices including examination by a provincial board, and penalties should a physician attempt to defraud the governing body into licensing him.
