This Act amends previous acts on the charter of Saint John, detailing the government structure and its responsibilities, eligibility for office and process for elections.
This is an amendment to an act passed in 1852 which repeals certain parts of the incorporation of the Newfoundland Electric Telegraph Company under the named individuals, as well as amending a 1851 act which made provisions for the establishment of telegraph companies in order to benefit the businesses of the province.
This act incorporates the St John's Mutual Gas-Light Company under the named individuals, and defines the rules and regulations under which the company will operate.
This act consolidates all past acts regarding the rebuilding of St John's after the fire of 1847, which destroyed a large portion of the town. Safety regulations, particularly regarding fire breaks, are clearly defined, as well as city regulations regarding sewage and street construction.
