An Act further to continue, for a limited time, two several Acts therein mentioned to provide Temporary Houses of Correction in the several Districts of this Province. (17th March, 1814.) 54 George III Chapter 5 1814 An act to further continue a former act passed in 1811 and amended in 1812 to provide temporary Houses of Correction in several districts, including the District of Quebec, District of Montreal, and District of Trois-Rivières until permanent facilities can be established. The original act set a budget for each district's temporary gaol and replaced the sentences of "punishment by transportation," "burns in the hand," or "death without the benefit of Clergy," with sentences in the House of Correction at the discretion of the Judges or Justices. The amended act provides an annual allowance to the Committees appointed to superintend the Houses of Correction in the Districts of Quebec, Montreal, and Trois-Rivières for the purposes described in the 1811 act. An Act for repealing so much of an Act, made in the thirty-second year of the late King, George the Second, entitled, “An Act relating to Treasons and Felonies,” as respects the privately murdering, or concealment of the death, of Bastard Children, and for making other provisions in lieu thereof. 53 George III – Chapter 11 1813 This act repeals and amends the fifth section of an act first passed in 1758, which categorizes various types of crimes as felonies. The clause in question regards the punishment of mothers who attempt to hide the death of bastard children; it is amended so that women who are charged with murdering any children born of them who would be considered bastard children are to be tried by rule of evidence. An Act to continue and make perpetual an Act passed in the forty- eighth year of His Majesty’s Reign, intituled, “An Act to authorise the Judges, in Civil Causes, in this Province, to delegate the power of administering Oaths in certain cases therein mentioned.” (19th May, 1812.) 52 George III Chapter 11 (S1) 1812 An act to continue and make perpetual a former act from 1808 to allow judges in civil causes to authorise individuals including notaries and justices of the peace to administer to the oath to experts, guardians, tutors, sub-tutors, or curators in places more than five leagues away from the Court to avoid the delay and expense of bringing distant experts to Court. (19th May, 1812.) 52 George III Chapter 10 (S1) 1812 This act, passed by virtue of an under the authority the 1805 act "An Act to provide for the erecting of a Common Gaol in each of the Districts of Quebec and Montreal, respectively, and the means of defraying the expences thereof" grants a further six thousand five hundred pounds for the construction of the Common Gaol for the District of Quebec.
