An Ordinance to repeal certain parts of an Ordinance therein-mentioned, and to amend certain other parts of the said Ordinance, and to provide for the further protection of the Indians in this Province. 3 Victoria Chapter 44 (Session 5) 1840 This Ordinance repeals and replaces the 1777 Act, “An Ordinance to prevent the selling of strong liquors to the Indians in the Province of Quebec, as also to deter persons from buying their Arms or Clothing, and for other purposes relative to the trade and intercourse with the said Indians." Under this Ordinance, the Governor is empowered to order any person to be removed from any Indian Village. This Ordinance is made permanent. Early Canadiana Online
An Ordinance to incorporate the Ecclesiastics of the Seminary of Saint Sulpice of Montreal, to confirm their Title to the Fief and Seigniory of the Island of Montreal, the Fief and Seigniory of the Lake of the Two Mountains, and the Fief and Seigniory of Saint Sulpice, in this Province; to provide for the gradual extinction of Seigniorial Rights and Dues, within the Seigniorial limits of the said Fiefs and Seigniories, and for other purposes. 3 Victoria Chapter 30 (Session 5) 1840 This Ordinance establishes the Seminary of Saint Sulpice as an Ecclesiastical Corporation, under the name “The Ecclesiastics of the Seminary of Saint Sulpice of Montreal" and under the provisions outlined. An Act to amend and make permanent an Act passed in the fifth year of His late Majesty’s reign, entitled, “An Act to prevent the Sale of Spirituous Liquors to Indians.” Passed 10th February, 1840. 3 Victoria – Chapter 13 1840 This is a continuation of an act first passed in 1835, making it illegal to sell liquor to indigenous people. (21st March, 1836.) 6 William IV Chapter 57 1836 This Act makes several provisions to support the fisheries in Gaspe, including allowing unoccupied beach to be used to cure and prepare fish for exportation. The Act outlines several rules and regulations for the fisheries, including where and how fishing may take place. Fishing weirs, as used by Indigenous Peoples are not to be used as they are destructive to the salmon industry. Penalties for those who act in defiance of this Act are described.
