DescriptionIn order to rectify the potential problems set into motion when town records recording land deeds and ownership were burnt during the War of 1812, this act allows for the appointment of five commissioners who will be in charge of re-defining deeds, wills, mortgages, leases, and all other legal documents lost or destroyed during the war. The act specifies the authority of these commissioners, how the replacement legal documents will be recorded, and how current land owners can register their properties.
