    An act to give Justices and Judges the power to give a Writ of Habeas Corpus ad subjiciendum to any person found to confine or restrain anyone for any reason other than a criminal or supposed criminal matter. These Judges and Justices include: the Chief Justices of the Province and Court of King's Bench in Montreal, any of the Justices of the courts of the Districts of Montreal, Quebec, and Trois-Rivières, and the Judge of the Provincial Court of Gaspé. The act outlines the penalties to be laid on anyone who refuses to appear before the courts once given the said Writ of Habeas Corpus, allowances for travel to the courts, and processes regarding the treatment of the confined party.
