An Ordinance to authorise the Governor, or Person administering the Government of this Province, to appoint persons as Justices of the Peace and Stipendary Magistrates, notwithstanding an Act of the Legislature of the Province of Lower Canada, passed in the sixth year of the Reign of His late Majesty, King William the Fourth, intituled, "An Act for the qualification of the Justices of the Peace.β

DescriptionUnder this Ordinance, the Governor or person administering the Government is empowered to appoint Justices of the Peace and Stipendary Magistrates even if they do not meet the requirements established under the 1836 Act, "βAn Act for the qualification of the Justices of the Peace." This Ordinance is to remain in force until 1840.
