  • Description
This act reduces the sum paid by Menonists, Quakers and Tunkers (German Baptist Brethren; Schwarzenau Brethren) to except them from militia service. While the laws of the province required all men between the ages of sixteen and 60 to serve in the militia, the men of these religious groups were except based on their religious beliefs; however, a law passed in 1808 required them to pay a fine for their exception. This act reduces the fine from twenty shillings to ten shillings for every year of peace time, but keeping it at five pounds for years of war.
