An Act to raise a sum of Money to Macadamize the Roads leading from Brockville to Saint Francis, Charleston, Lyndhurst, Beverly and Portland, in the District of Johnstown, and to authorise the erection of Toll Gates on the said Roads. Passed 4th March, 1837.

  • Description
    This act grants money to improve the roads of Brockville, Saint Francis, Charleston, Lyndhurst, Beverly, and Portland, specifically using a process called macadamization invented by John Loudon Macadam which involved crushed stone or gravel. Residents of the area adjacent to said road are required to statute labour in order to maintain the road, or pay taxes in lieu. Tolls and regulations regarding use of the road are also specified.
