DescriptionUnder this Act, the Justices of the Peace residing in the cities of Quebec and Montreal are allowed to establish any number of men they deem necessary as Night Watchmen and cause the principal streets, public places, lanes, and avenues, to be lit by lamps at night. Directions for both the Night Watch and lamps are outlined, including allowable penalties persons who damage lamps will be subject to and where the funds to pay for them are to be taken from.
