  • Description
    This act incorporates the named individuals as the For Erie Canal Company. The company is empowered to purchase, appropriate, take, and hold lands in order to build canals and locks, towing paths, and other associated structures to connect the rapids at the head of the Niagara river to the foot of the rapids. They are also empowered to charge a toll for use of the canal once the project is completed. The act specifies what types of vessels should be able to navigate the canal once it is complete, and the company is given eight years to complete it.
