An Act to prevent accidents in the landing of Gunpowder from Ships or ether Vessels in the Harbour of Quebec, and to guard against the careless transporting of the same into the Powder Magazines. An Act to give further power to the Executive Government, to prevent the introduction or spreading of infectious or contagious Diseases. (22 March, 1817.) 57 George III Chapter 19 1817 An act that empowers the Port Masters or other persons appointed by the government to quarantine ships who have arrived from areas that are known to have outbreaks of contagious diseases in order to prevent outbreaks of those diseases within the province. Penalties for ship masters who fail to abide by this act are outlined. Vessels known to carry infectious diseases are to hoist a yellow flag or ensign to the fore-top mast. An Act to appropriate a certain sum of money therein mentioned, for the promotion of Vaccine Inoculation. (22 March, 1817.) 57 George III Chapter 15 1817 Under this Act, a sum of two thousand two hundred and fifty pounds are appropriated to defray the expense of vaccine inoculation in the districts of Montreal, Quebec, Trois-Rivières, and Gaspé. An Act to continue for a limited time an Act passed in the fifty-first year of His Majesty’s Reign, intituled, “An Act for the relief of Insane Persons and for the support of Foundlings and others therein mentioned;” and also to grant a further sum of money for the more effectual attainment of the purposes of the said Act. The original act was to provide support to people of 'deranged Intellect', incapable of earning their subsistence, foundlings, sick and infirm persons, as well as the support of Religious communities that administer relief. This act grants a sum not exceeding three thousand pounds, for the benefit of foundlings or the mentally infirm and dictates who will be responsible to administer this money. This act specifies the maximum funds permitted per district, including fifteen hundred pounds, for the District of Quebec, of one thousand pounds for the District of Montreal and of Five hundred pounds for the District of Trois-Rivières.
